Creature Designs

Here are some creature designs. They're basically tyranid/xenomorph/zerg type monsters. I didn't want them to be as instantly terrifying as the inspiration though. The bottom image has the initial sketches. Each creature design has it's own stereotypical behaviour. For the final render, I took some interesting elements from all of them to create a general form for the creature.

Here's a female version in the same style as the last post

Mech Design

I was inspired by Transformers.

Edit: Apparently blogger automatically compresses an image if it's too big. This smaller one looks a lot better.

Another old study

A friend of mine asked me to put this one up. It's from a few years ago and so again I can't find the photo reference. My apologies to the original photographer.

Sci fi character

I used a simple 3D mesh from Daz Studio to start and then painted in Photoshop as usual.

Graphic design/ Illustration

These next two are tweaked versions of a cover I did for Diatribe Magazine's March 2010 issue. I couldn't decide on colours so I made two. I hope the flip makes the first seem more abstract. I used Alchemy for some of the shapes.

Graphic Design work Summer 2009

Here's a few pages from the Guide to Queen's Agenda (now called Tricolour Agenda) I designed for Queen's University Alma Mater Society in the summer of 2009. The pages are 5.5 x 8, so they're all two page spreads after the first one. The 3D work in the November title was done in Cinema 4D. Photoshop and inDesign for everything else.

Cover

Each month was colour coded with their starting title spread.

The images used in the illustrations are courtesy of Queen's AMS Tricolour Publication Services.

Finally posting stuff

Here's some old studies that I've tweaked. I can't remember where the original sources are from and I don't know how true they are to the sources, considering I liquified and moded them quite liberally. The second one is very modified (the source was a fashion portrait shot... I think).

A bit of background

Hey everyone, just starting this art blog as a sketchbook. I actually just finished a degree at Queen's University in computer science and physics, so I've been learning art and design on the side. I'll use this blog like a sketchbook, showing some sketches and finished work as I improve.
